What does the word “detoxify” mean? In simple terms, it means the cleansing of the body from the inside out by getting rid of the various toxins that have accumulated through your life!

Detoxification is actually a natural process that the body does on its own when it has the right environment. However, over time, given our less-than perfect eating habits, and an environment that may have an inordinate amount of toxins present, sometimes it is beneficial to practice additional internal cleansing. This will help the liver do a better job.

It is known that our toxic environment is liable for 80 to 90 percent of cancers and only a small percentage of cancers are due of our DNA. Things that can contribute to cancer include: industrial chemicals, pesticides, radiation, food additives, and refined foods.

Detoxing is also important to help prevent other diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, even stroke and cataracts. Emotional stress produces toxins, too, and can weaken the neurological, hormone, and immune functions.

Toxins are in our water, the air we breathe, in the ground or soil, and in the foods we eat. Our meats, seafood, fruits and vegetables all are found with residues of various chemicals.

There really does not seem to be any way on this earth to totally avoid getting slow poison either by the foods we eat, chemicals we use around our house, the water we drink or the air we breathe. Yes, certain vitamins and minerals, eating organic foods, and drinking plenty of purified water each day will certainly help, but periodic internal cleansing may also be wise to help prevent sickness and disease.

So, what are some ways you can detoxify your body and hopefully, reduce your odds of getting any kind of serious illness or disease?

There are ways you can mildly detox and there are ways to do a more serious, complete detox. A mild, almost daily detox could include using certain spices when you cook. These spices include: cinnamon, oregano, turmeric, cumin, clove, rosemary, cilantro, ginger, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and parsley.

Other mild type of detoxes may be to replace a meal with a detoxing smoothie, eat organic foods, get plenty of fiber in your diet, and take a good probiotic supplement. Plus, aerobic exercise and working up a sweat are great ways to do some detoxing.

For more serious types of detox methods, there are a number of products available at your health food store, such as colon cleanse, gallbladder cleanse, liver cleanse, toxic metal cleanse, candida cleanse, harmful organism cleanse, etc.

You may want to choose a very pleasant way of getting an internal cleanse and go to a message therapist. In addition, acupuncture can help cleanse the body internally.

So, as you can see, there are many options to choose from when it comes to detoxifying and cleansing your body from the inside out. Until you can make a decision on which kind of detoxification might be the most beneficial, you can be sure that drinking plenty of water, getting plenty of fiber, eating healthy, taking vitamin-mineral supplements and exercising on a regular basis will be a great choice!
